What is a REIT?

A Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) is a company that owns, operates, or finances income-generating real estate. Essentially, it allows an individual to invest in real estate without directly buying and managing the properties. REITs are similar to mutual funds in that they pool money from multiple investors and invest it in a portfolio of real estate assets.
